Greengate St Helens Fireproof Brick.
Sutton, 8/09/2023
Credit: Philip Wilkinson
Found in two pieces on Sherdley Road, Peasley Cross, St Helens close to the old UGB bottle works,
This is a local brick was made at the Greengate Brickworks that used to be located next to Ravenhead Road. No longer accessible to the public as its on land owned by Pilkingtons Greengate Factory.
I can remember walking on this land when the access was open, wild and undeveloped. There was also access to the remains of the Old Teapot Potteries and the clay pits that were next to Dorothy Street. All has changed and has been lost over the last forty years but some heritage can still be found if you look for it.

Visit the website of St Elyns Olde Bricke Collection this heritage week.
