Cowley Hill Park opened in June 1886; however its name was short lived and to commemorate the Queen’s Golden Jubilee in 1887, it was renamed Victoria Park.
The terracotta fountain (circa 1892) was presented by Sir Henry Doulton along with other gifts including two chairs which were known locally as the King’s chair and Queen’s chair. The Mansion house had become a museum around this time and its collection was enhanced by loans from the Victoria and Albert Museum.
