Archives art project, Summer 2018 August 2018
Credit: photos by Claire Weetman for St Helens Community Archive
During August 2018 people from the St Helens refugee / resettlement community explored and interpreted the St Helens Archives with artists Claire Weetman and Rebecca Ainsworth, resulting in a new artwork that will be a living archive at the drop in cafe run by charity 'Our Warm Welcome'

The project included a visit to St Helens Libraries archives in the Gamble Building, a visit to Dream, a workshop at Newton Le Willows Library, taster sessions at St Andrew's Church Craft Cafe and Refugee Women Connect (formerly Mrang) and support from St Helens Council Equalities team/Adult and Community Learning.

The artwork features images from the archives, found collage and new images provided by the participants in the project. The work itself contains many drawers where new photographs and objects can be added as people from refugee backgrounds arrive, pass through or settle in St Helens.
